In the death of Uncle Fed Marshal, his home community of Bethany has lost one of its most beloved and kindly men. Mr. Marshall was born January 22, 1859, in Louisiana, and his parents moved to Texas when he was about 9 years old.
In 1882, he married Miss Sallie Durham, who passed away 18 years ago. Eight children came into this home. Mrs. J. N. Hawthorn, the oldest one, died about 8 years ago.
Uncle Fed joined the Bethany Baptist Church and very few times since has he missed a service. He felt his responsibility, and never let the material things of life come between him and his God. His friends and neighbors have lost a real friend, his children, a devoted father, and all feel that he used this world as a school of preparation for the one to come and is not dead but gone on a little earlier than most of us who remain here and will welcome us when we cross the river. His life should be an inspiration to his children and all who came in contact with him.
He passed away Saturday, and Sunday afternoon, he was laid by the side of his wife in the Bethany Cemetery. Rev. D. D. Swearingen of Warren, and his beloved pastor, Dr. R. A. Tate of Colmesneil were in charge of the funeral services.
The sorrowing children, Mrs. Sam Brown of Corrigan, Mrs. Willie Lockhart of Doucette, Mrs. L H Hawthorn of Port Arthur, Hardy, Huey, and Craig Marshall, all of Colmesneil, have the sincere sympathy of all who know them. He is also survived by two brothers and one sister, Dan and Matt Marshall of Huntington, and Mrs. Dink Smith of Call. There are 27 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
