He was born on Sept. 22, 1932 in DeLand to George B. and Alma R. (Dye) Grant.
After graduating from DeLand-Weldon High School in 1952, Jack served in the Korean War from 1952 to 1955 (Army), reaching the rank of staff sergeant. He married Ruth Ann Hansen in Monticello on Nov. 24, 1955.
Jack worked as a carpenter and general contractor for many years, taking over Grant Construction in 1969. He built many fine homes and structures in and around the Monticello area.
In later years, Jack was a driver for Rick Ridings Ford in Monticello from 2005 to 2013.
Golf was Jack's lifelong passion and he was very skilled at the sport, winning several local trophies and playing in a Pro-Am tournament in 1988. For many years, he and his wife were very active members of the Monticello Golf Club. Jack enjoyed many golf destination vacations over the years, both with and without his wife, his favorite being Point Clear, Alabama.
Jack and Ruth Ann were also season ticket holders for University of Illinois football and basketball and Grant-In-Aid contributors.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill, Dean and Bob and sister, Alma Jean Graham.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann; four children, Gaye (Dave), Rick (Gillian), Karen (Dean) Phillips and Steve (Jill); four grandchildren; a sister, Georgia (Harlas) King and brother, Larry (Bev) Grant.
