The men were laborers on the Covington and Ohio Railroad laying track from Richmond, Virginia, over and through the mountains to the Covington, Virginia area until work was stopped by the onset of the Civil War in 1860.
They continued west, settling in Bracken County, Kentucky and bought land near Chatham, and lived the remainder of their lives there.
John died in 1875 and was buried in neighboring Mason County in Maysville.
