FRANK AMEEL PASSES AWAY
Former Grocer a Native of This City
Francis J. Ameel, age 73 years, known to a host of people in Mount Clemens as Frank Ameel, died at 11:30 p.m. Saturday at his residence, 39 North avenue, following an illness of several days.
Mr. Ameel was the son of the late Louis and Annie Ameel, and was born in Mount Clemens. He spent his entire lifetime here, and in his young manhood purchased from his father the candy and tobacco store which Mr. Ameel, Sr., operated on Pearlstreet.
From that time, Frank Ameel was a well known figure in local business. Later he became associated with the firm of Pringnitz and Ameel, which operated a grocery store for many years on Gratiot avenue opposite the County Building. He retired from business in 1928, and since then had maintained an active interest in local affairs. He was a daily visitor in The Leader office, where he enjoyed meeting old friends.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Emily Flaherty Ameel; two brothers, Henry, of Mount Clemens and Charles, of Detroit, and a nephew, Joseph B. Ameel, of Burlingame, Calif.
