Betty was a popular person and capable bookkeeper at Detroit City Airport for eight years. After taking a trip to Montreal, she became ill upon her Monday return to Detroit. On Wednesday, she was hospitalized with Polio and she died on Thursday. Her September 1950 death from polio was the 18th in Detroit that year, a record.
Within two years, Salk would be testing his Polio vaccine and by 1955 it would be widely available.
