She was the daughter of an immigrant, living in Randolph, Massachusetts. He was a blacksmith. When Joseph Augustin de la Riviere came there from Quebec, he learned the trade from Mr. McMahon and Catherine taught him English. They married and had many children. They migrated from Massachusetts to California with three children and my Grandfather on the way. More biography to follow.
