He was born December 10, 1927 in Springfield, Massachusetts , the son of Hildebrand and Lena Peter Bareiss.
Richard married Elinore Simon on June 7, 1952 in Lynbrook, NY.
He served as a chaplain for 20 years in the U.S. Navy and retired as a commander.
Later, he served at Houghton College in New York and Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, IN for many years. He also volunteered as a chaplain with other various organizations.
Richard attended Lakeview Wesleyan Church in Marion, IN.
Surviving are his wife, Elinore Bareiss of Bourbonnais; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert & Lori Bareiss of Indiana; three daughters and one son-in-law, Nancy Bareiss of Texas, Shirley J. & Jonathan Keith of West Chicago, and Catherine Bareiss of Bradley; one sister, Mildred Christiansen of Florida; one brother, David Bareiss of Arizona; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert; and one sister, Marguerite.
Visitation was held 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. Dr. Brian Bradford officiatef for the service.
Interment will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
