Virginia "Ginny" Mae Fowler, 95, of Evansville passed away on Tuesday, April 4 at her home in Holiday Village. She was born at home on May 30, 1921 in Mariah Hill, IN to Albert and Elizabeth Heim Yellig.

Ginny and her mother and seven siblings moved to Evansville when she was six after the death of her father. She attended St. Anthony Grade School and Reitz Memorial High School. She worked at Mead Johnson where she met her future husband, Bill. They married in 1947 and would have been married 70 years in June. Ginny was a stay at home mother while her children were young and held various part-time jobs once they started school. In 1958 she graduated from Tri-State Beauty College and worked part-time at Kroger Barber and Beauty Shop until her last child was born. When she retired, she was working as a cashier at Great Scot, a job she loved because she liked meeting all the people.

Ginny was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Estella Elpers, Helen Miller Neale and Dorothy Meredith; her brothers, Norbert, Earl, Jerome and Leroy Yellig; and son-in-law, Gerard "Jerry" Mattingly.

Ginny is survived by her husband, William "Bill"; daughters, Phyllis Fowler, Sandra Madriaga (Mike), and Marilyn Sue Mattingly all of Evansville; son, Thomas (Lisa) of Mt. Juliet, TN; grandchildren Zac Mattingly (Cathy), Mandy Singer, Brett Mattingly, and Heather Madriaga all of Evansville, April Zik (Josh) of Louisville, KY, Cameron Fowler and Brooke Fowler of Mt. Juliet, TN; great-grandchildren, Malaya, Koa, and Alina Mattingly and Zoey and Charlotte Zik.

Thank you to Holiday Village and Heritage Hospice for their care and compassion. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Alana and Carol, mother's caregivers during this final journey. We will be forever grateful.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Mausoleum. Friends may visit from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Browning Funeral Home and again from 9:00 am until service time on Saturday.
