Marie H. Kane, 99, of Binghamton, once called the prettiest woman to ever walk through Fowlers, Marie Hand Kane passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 1, 2017. Predeceased by her husband, Dr. John T. Kane, as well as her eldest daughter Marie Catherine, she is survived by her other eight children: Sharon of North Carolina, Christine (Tomas) of Montreal, Patricia of Albany, J. Timothy, Marcia, Colleen (Mark), and Kevin (Kate), all of the Binghamton area, and Mary Ellen of East Hampton. She is also survived by her twenty grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, as well as by her sister Elisabeth of California and her brother Richard of Florida. After growing up in Endicott and graduating from St. Joseph's College of Nursing in Syracuse, Marie joined American Airlines as a stewardess in the glamorous days of air travel. Following several enjoyable years, she married and settled down in Binghamton to raise her nine children. During this time Marie became involved in what was then called the ARC-Association for Retarded Children, serving a term as its president. In her sixties she took up swimming seriously-- attracting some notoriety in her seventies by swimming across Quaker Lake several times. She also enjoyed bridge into her early eighties.
