He was convicted of passing counterfeit notes and sentenced to three years in the Ohio Penitentiary in 1858, but was a model prisoner and received a pardon from the Governor on Feb. 26, 1861. After being released from prison, Asbury began calling himself Frank, possibly to avoid association with his past misdeeds. He died in Violet Twp., Fairfield Co., in 1864.
