JACK JULIAN REYNOLDS, 86, of Austin passed away January 23, 2002 Jack was born December 24, 1915 to James J. Reynolds and Eugenia Meyer Reynolds in Albany, TX. He earned a B.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1941 and had postgraduate studies at Harvard and M.I.T. In 1941, Jack joined Stanolind Oil and Gas Company and later U.S. Bureau of Mines before serving in the U. S. Navy during World War II. In 1948, he began his thirty-year career with Conoco as Director of Production Research in Ponca City, OK. In 1959, Jack was transferred to Houston where his assignments included Chief Engineer, Manager Reserves and Acquisitions, and Manager Worldwide Engineering Services. In 1969, he moved to London, England as the Director of Production where he was responsible for developing oil and gas fields in the North Sea. Later, as Vice President of Conoco and Chairman and Managing Director of Continental Oil, Jack was an industry leader in negotiating with the British government. Jack was a member and chairman on working committees of the American Petroleum Institute and the Society of Petroleum Engineers( SPE). Upon receiving the Decoyer Distinguished Service Medal, the SPE noted the " high standards of Professionalism that he has both practiced and championed for petroleum engineering over a period of more than forty years." Upon his retirement in 1978, Jack returned to Texas. He was a consultant to various Energy companies, served on the board of Brit Oil and established Oil Finder, an oil Exploration Company. Jack demonstrated a strong interest in education. He served with distinction on the School boards of the American School in London, Dripping Springs ISD and Lake Travis ISD. In addition, he participated in fundraising activities for St. Stephen's Episcopal School in Austin.Jack was a sports enthusiast. He enjoyed snow and water skiing, handball, tennis and Especially golf. He served on the board of Champions Golf Club in Houston and Held season tickets to all University of Texas athletic events. Other hobbies included Reading and travel. But most of all, Jack will be remembered as a supportive and loving husband and Father. He never missed a school play or a soccer game and always encouraged Us to follow our dreams. Thoughtful, gracious and considerate, Jack Reynolds was a True gentleman. His intelligence, dry wit and kind spirit will be deeply missed. Jack is survived by his wife of 38 years, Linda Reynolds of Austin; his son And daughter-in-law Glen and Brenda Reynolds of Los Angeles, CA; his son And daughter-in-law James and Natalie Tischler and their son Forest of Austin; His brother Robert Reynolds of Arlington, Texas; his brother and sister-in-law James and Barbara Reynolds of Coralville, IA; his sister and brother-in-law Rosanna and David Duff of Sunnyvale, CA; his sister and brother-in-law Marjorie And Lloyd Shelley of Seattle, WA; his sister-in-law Joy Goodale of Houston; his brother in-law James Harris and wife Aurora of Bowie, MD and many nieces & nephews.Graveside services will be held at the Reynolds Bend Cemetery, north of Albany, TX On January 25, 2002 at 4:00PM.
