Born Aug. 31, 1920, in Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John T. Hockensmith and Marie Alphonzine Huffnagle Hockensmith. He was the husband of Wilma Cotingame Hockensmith, who died in 1991.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired in 1985 as a carpenter from the Mathews Brown Construction Company.
Surviving are sons Robert J. Hockensmith Jr. and Timothy L. Hockensmith, both of Taneytown, and David L. Hockensmith of Westminster; daughters Lydia Locke of Chicago, Ill., and Julia Startt of Littlestown, Pa.; sisters Dorothy Sell of Westminster and Helen Becker of New Oxford, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster, with the Rev. Larry Douthwaite, of Living Faith Evangelical Church, officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, Pa.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Mid-Atlantic Affiliate, Memorials and Tributes Processing Center, P.O.
