Born April 14, 1921 in Magoffin County, KY, she was the daughter of Adam and Sally Neely Wireman. She married Thomas Benton Whitaker II in 1940; he preceded her in death.
Cynthia was a 1937 graduate of Magoffin County High School. She worked at the Muscatatuck State Development Center for 21 years as a dietary and laundry supervisor. She also worked on radios at Arvin Industries, was a head cook at Magoffin Schools and a glue stripper at Regal Rugs. She was a member of the North Vernon Nazarene Church and enjoyed quilting, sewing, embroidering, reading, gardening, and trying new recipes.
Survivors include her son – Max Douglas Howard of Mooresville, IN; daughters – Gordennell (Richard) Griner of Butlerville and Deborah Murphy of North Vernon; sister – Abigail Wireman of Albion, MI; 19 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father – Adam Wireman; her mother – Sally Neely Wireman Parks; her husband; a daughter – Carlotta Rose Garwood; sons – Donald Gene Howard, Karl Edward and Alphonso A. Whitaker; grandchild – Richard Howard.
The funeral for Ms. Whitaker will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 22, 2016 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Caleb Reynolds and Rev. Melvin McCollough officiating. Visitation will be from 2 – 5 p.m. on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery.
