Peggy L. Austin, 69, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, in Alamogordo. She was born on Jan. 20, 1938, in Clovis to Pat and Nellie (Billington) O'Brien. Peggy met and married Gerald F. Austin in Clovis on Aug. 11, 1971. They moved to Alamogordo in 1976 after Gerald retired from the Air Force with 23 years of service. Peggy retired after twenty years as a certified medical assistant at Thunderbird obstetrics/gynecology. She was a member of Tops NM No. 359, and was Tops "Queen of England" in 1972.
Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Gerald F. Austin, of the family home; son Bryan Austin and wife Dana, of Chandler, Ariz.; daughters Marie Bouma and husband John, of Alamogordo, and Kathy Falk and husband Chuck, of Phoenix; six grandsons; two granddaughters; two great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; sisters Sharon Douglas and husband Bernie, of Clovis, Robin Williams and husband Willie, of Killeen, Texas, Carol Smith and husband Dan, of Allen, Texas, and Mary May, of Clovis; and brother Leon and wife Jackie, of Easley, S.C.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Patricia Allred, brother Cameron Flint; and one great-granddaughter.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Richardson officiating.
Pallbearers include Matthew Bouma, Walt Roberts, Charlie Speltzer, John Douglas, Russell Roberts, Frank Smith, Arnold Anaya and Harry Day.

Honorary pallbearers include Dr. Lindley, Rudy Durand, Bob Perkins, Willie Williams, Bernard Douglass and Billy Mills.

Interment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery.

Friends may call on Monday, Feb., 5, 2007 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Contributions can be made to American Diabetes Association.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Alamogordo Funeral Home.
