Ernest R. Padilla Feb. 26, 1923 - Oct. 16, 2006 Resident of Rodeo At the age of 83, Ernest died peacefully after a long bout with Alzheimer's disease. Born in Crockett, Calif., Ernie, as most people knew him, was a Rodeo resident for the majority of his life. He served his country, enlisting with the Navy in December 1942 as a Carpenter's Mate 2nd Class USNR, and was honorably discharged in November 1945. He worled for Union Oil Company at Oleum, Calif., until retirement in 1985. Ernie is survived by his loving wife, Dora of 61 years; three children, Shirley Reynolds, Rodney Padilla and Sonny Padilla; and five grandchildren, Darren, Dan and Dave Hutchins, and Sarah and Ashley Padilla; one great granddaughter, Ava Hutchins; and another great-granddaughter on the way. Ernie is also survived by his sisters, Anna Puentes, Estelle Esqueda, Lorraine Di Giovanni, Hope Cortez, Angela Smothers, and one brother, Manuel Padilla. Throughout his life, Ernie was known for his caring ways, his concern for others, and his smile of kindness. He was a hard worker, and for many years, picked up side jobs to help out his family. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, 2006 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Rodeo, followed by interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery in San Pablo. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2065 W. El Camino Real, Suite C, Mountain View, CA 94040-2217. Arrangements were handled by Hosselkus Chapel, Crockett, (510) 799-1411.
