Mildred Lucille Van Sickle was born August 28, 1923 to August and Elizabeth Koch in Milaca. She attended country school and graduated from Milaca High School in 1941. She was united in marriage to C. Francis Hardy on February 11, 1942. They were blessed with seven children, lived and farmed in the Milaca area.
Millie was a life-long member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was active in the Ladies Aid. Millie worked as a cook for Milaca Public Schools for twenty years. She is fondly remembered in the high school cafeteria as the "best lunch lady." She had a great love of family and nature. Her family remembers her enjoying coffee with friends, cooking, baking, needlepoint, embroidery, sewing, reading, traveling, cross-country skiing and gardening. She passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Milaca Elim Home.

Millie was a kind and gentle woman who will be greatly missed by her husband, Ron Van Sickle; children, Barbara (Jerry) Holznagel, Gary Hardy, David (Gina) Hardy, Denis Hardy, Linda Gilder, Donna (Joe) Lemmon and Sandra Hardy; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Hazel Hardy; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, C. Francis Hardy and Harold Nelson; brothers, Arthur and Vernon Koch; step-brother, Louis Smith; step-daughter, Kathy Nelson; son-in-law, John Gilder; and many loved brothers and sisters-in-law.
