The world became a lot less bright when Brooke Chantel Preston also known as "Cook," "Cookie," "Brooklyn" and her personal favorite "Little Princess," age 21, of Wyalusing, Pa., tragically passed away at the hands of another, on Saturday, March 25, 2017, in West Palm Beach, Fla.
We are certain our beautiful girl sprinted the 50-yard dash to heaven while wearing high-heels, a sparkling tiara and flaunting her infectious smile. She may even have been driving a skid steer or an excavator. Brooke was a spitfire who brought joy into everyone's life that she touched. She lived life in the moment, grabbed every opportunity that came her way and made the most of it.
Brooke was born on Sept. 1, 1995 in Sayre, Pa., the youngest daughter of John Edward Preston and Nancy Slabicki. She graduated from the Wyalusing Valley High School, a member of the class of 2013. She also obtained an associate's degree in business management from the State College of Florida and was excited about starting her new position as a Radiographer for NVI, LLC in Buffalo, N.Y., where she resided with the love of her life, Bryan Brown. Brooke had many goals and dreams and she was determined to earn her bachelor's degree. She believed that nothing was too hard or too big to overcome. She was driven, motivated and inspired to succeed. Her first tattoo read "The sky is the limit."
Mere words cannot capture the spirit of our vivacious, fun-loving, spunky girl. She touched the lives of everyone she met. Her heart was huge and overflowed with kindness. She put her own dreams on hold to take care of her grandfather, Martin "Kenny" Slabicki, during his final days. Brooke loved spending time with her family and friends, the beach, road trips, reading, Penguin games, gymnastics and everything that sparkled.
We need people like her in our lives to remind us that we cannot live in the past or in the future, but in the moment to make the best of what we have.
Surviving are her father, John Preston and "Miss Jackie" Vanderpool of Wyalusing, Pa., and her children, Vanessa, Dutch, Audy, Ava and Lydia; mother, Nancy Slabicki and Rich LaFrance of Wyalusing, Pa.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Jessica and Ronald Kipp of Wyalusing, Pa., and his children, Taelyr and Daegan, and Jordan Preston and Marco Martin of West Palm Beach, Fla.; grandmother, Marie "Linda" Slabicki of Harrisburg, Pa.; aunts and uncles, Shirley Bristol of Troy, Pa., Donna and Ronnie Cole of Wyalusing, Pa., Pat and Burt Neuber of Wyalusing, Pa., Mary and Glenn Beckley of Wyalusing, Pa., Nancy Preston of Herrickville, Pa., Sharon and James Ambush of Mt. Holly Springs, Pa., Maureen and Jim Stanton of Lenoxville, Pa., Janette Slabicki of Harrisburg, Pa., and Lynn and Ken Benka-Davies of Harrisburg, Pa.
She is also survived by the extended LaFrance family and a special pet, Bob the dog, and also by several cousins and countless friends.
She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Herbert and Doris Neiley Preston; her maternal grandfather, Martin "Kenneth" Slabicki; and her uncles, Roy Preston and Mike Bristol.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, Pa., with the Rev. Heather M. Baker-McAllister officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in the Camptown Cemetery.
Friends and family may call from 1 to 3 p.m. and again from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2017 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Towanda Skilled Nursing Unit, One Hospital Drive, Towanda, PA 18848; or to the Guthrie Hospice, 421 Tomahawk Road, Towanda, PA 18848. These were both near and dear to Brooke's heart because of the wonderful care they gave to her grandfathers, the late Herb Preston and Kenny Slabicki.
