s/o Henry & Mary Hyre Shobe--wed Rebecca Shobe 1822-1879

From: Page 65 Shobe Family in America from 1737 to 1954
George Washington Shobe, died in Grant County, W. Va.
Dec. 3, 1865 and is buried in the Hyer cemetery southwest of Petersburg, which is the county seat. Whether or not he was a victim of the Civil War, just then ended has not been ascertained, but at that time he was only forty-five years of age, and had probably served as a soldier in the war. The inscription on the stone also indicates that his daughter Mary is also buried there. From the foregoing, it is proper to assume that his children were all born in Grant county. (He died of lung fever).

However, Rebecca Shobe, (Also a Shobe, daughter of Martin & Jemima Shobe) his widow, had at least two brothers living in Indiana. They were Adonijah and Henry Shobe, sons of Martin. Adonijah was a full brother and Henry was a half-brother. Sometime after the death of her husband she took her brood to Montgomery county, Indiana where many of their descendants have remained to this day.
