He was the son of James F. Riley and his wife Susan Isabella O'Bryan (sometimes seen as O'Brien).

He married Mary F. Bishop in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky on February 16, 1904.

He had worked in the structural iron industry. He was a supervisor. He supervised the turning of the Indiana Bell building. In 1930. In which the entire 8 story building was rotated while the workers continued working.
The operators were known to have said, they never lost a call during the time the building was being turned.

He died from an acute coronary occlusion, due to heart disease. He was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery on March 21, 1960.

I never got the chance to meet my Great Grandfather. I would listen to the stories my mother and her siblings would tell. They all told of how our grandfather was the kindest, gentlest man they ever met. How they never ever heard him raise his voice. It is said, he would take a belly ache from babies, by laying the baby on his belly and the baby would quiet down. I think this shows great qualities in a man. They also told of how my Great Grandfather and Great Grandmother were so much in love right up until they died.
