James P. Walsh, age 82, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017.

Born and raised in Joliet on March 28, 1934 to the late George and Theresa (nee Fox) Walsh. Jim attended Joliet Township High School, DeLaSalle High School in Chicago, IL and Joliet Junior College. He earned a Bachelors Degree in Business from Northern Illinois University and his Masters Degree in Business from the University of Chicago. He was a proud U.S. Army Veteran serving his country from 1954-1956 before being Honorably Discharged. A member and Past President of the Parish Council of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church and a member of the AHEPA Society, American Legion Post 1080, Member of the Old Timers Baseball Association, Boy Scouts of America, Member of the Grocers Association, and the Supermarket Operations Instructor at College of DuPage, a Guest Lecturer at Lewis University, an Instructor of Business at Joliet Junior College, a Member of The High School Distributive Education Advisory Council. Jim earned numerous achievements, awards and acolades during his career earning the respect and overall regard of his colleagues. He could be firm, but always fair, if challenged he could respond in a very wise way. Always on top of things, tough but ultimately fair. A natural born leader able to bring out the best in people and inspire them. He showed passionate dedication and enthusiasm for his work with his beloved church.

Jim's greatest love and joy in his life was his wife of 57 years, Margie and his beloved grandchildren. Jim was a loving and devoted father of his special sons, George K. (Edith) and James R. Walsh; cherished Papou of Zakkary Warsaw, Zoe and Abigail Walsh. His sister-in-law Margo Passas and many nieces and nephews also survive.

Preceded in death by his parents, George A. (1953) and Theresa (1945); five brothers, Robert (1966), Donald, Leo (1980), John "Jack" (2002) and Fr. David Walsh, O'Carm (1995); his cherished in-laws, George J. (1962) and Helen (1995) Passas.

He did a lot of good things for many people, never seeking recognition or talking about it. Jim was blessed with integrity and humility, a great mentor, philanthropist and friend. We will mourn the loss of him and celebrate his life and good works. Our hearts are broken at the loss of our beloved Jim, the man we respected and loved so much. A loving and giving person who gave unconditional love and support to all, he was a man of dignity and integrity. His warm and gentle demenor will be missed by all.

Funeral Services for James Walsh will be held on Monday, March 27, 2017 at 8:45 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, IL to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 102 N. Broadway, Joliet, IL where a service will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Joliet Area Community Hospice or All Saints Greek Orthodox Church Endowment Fund would be appreciated. Visitation Sunday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m with Trisagion Services at 6:00 p.m.
