INJURIES PROVE FATAL TO MICHAEL SANTINI
Michael G. Santini, of 99 High St., died in Clifton Springs Sanitarium Thursday, March 2, 1944 from injuries received in a Palmyra railroad accident.
Santini who had worked for the New York Central Railroad for the past 18 years was a section foreman in charge of a group of Mexican workers who were performing their duties as section crew at the time of the accident.
Coming west from Palmyra on two motor-propelled railroad cars and trailer, Santini and his crew of 27 were thrown from the cars when they collided with an automobile on Gooney's Crossing, a mile and a half north of Palmyra.
Operator of the automobile, Lester Ikewood of Palmyra, had stopped at the crossing to allow an east-bound freight train to pass and then started across, not seeing the crew cars coming in the opposite direction on track 3. The lead railroad car struck the front side of the automobile.
Foreman Santini died shortly after arrival at the Clifton Springs Sanitarium, from internal injuries and multiple fractures. Two other crew members suffered severe injuries and their condition is reported as "fair".
Santini, 34 years of age, was born in Italy. He is survived by his wife, Laura; two sons, Michael Jr., 10, Donald, 4; his mother, Mrs. Mary Santini of 79 High St.; two sisters, Mrs. Anthony Molica, Miss Alberta Santini; five brothers, Nicholas A. of Newark, N. Y., Samuel of East Rochester, Pfc. Jesse and Pfc. Anthony serving in the armed forces overseas, and Rudolph of 79 High Street; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at the home on Monday at 8:30 a. M. and 9:00 at the Church of the Assumption. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.
