Last rites for A. M. Copeland, 82, LaDue, who died Aug. 20 at his home, were held Wednesday, Aug. 23, at LaDue Christian Church. Burial was in White Oak Cemetery.

Alfred Martin Copeland was born Dec. 17, 1878, near St. James, Mo., one of six children of Thomas and Cynthia Fritz Copeland. Two brothers preceded him in death. He grew to manhood in the St. James vicinity. On July 4, 1907, he married Dina Wentzel and they established their home at Rolla, Mo., where Mr. Copeland taught in the elementary school. He followed the teaching profession for more than 10 years then engaged in farming.

They farmed near Safe, Mo., and before retiring 14 years ago, farmed a few years at Lucas, south of Urich. Upon retirement they settled in LaDue which since had been the home. Quiet and unassuming Mr. Copeland carried himself with dignity. He is remembered for his most pleasant mannerisms, a smiling countenance, his honesty, integrity and his deep regard for his fellowman. He was well liked by all who knew him and deeply respected.

He leaves his wife and daughter, Opal, of the home; three sons, Edgar and Elsworth of near Urich, Robert Lee, Wichita; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Frank (Rosa) Arnold, St. James, Mo.; two brothers, Chris, Safe, Mo., Robert, Rolla, Mo.; many other relatives and friends. One daughter preceded him in death. [Urich-Montrose Herald Tidings, Aug 25 1961]
