Bettye Jean (Hart) Ponder, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at Ardmore. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2017, in The Chapel at Griffin ~ Hillcrest Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Benedict officiating.
Bettye was born on July 4, 1927, to Caryl Hart and Isabella (Clelland) Hart, at Ada, Okla. She graduated from Ada High School. Bettye married Thomas Allen Ponder in Ada, on Nov. 16, 1947. She was a member of The Maxwell Avenue Church of Christ. She served as a leader of the Campfire Girls of America. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Bettye went to work in 1977 for Ardmore District Bell Federal Credit Union and retired in 1988 after Thomas' retirement. Bettye enjoyed home decorating, sewing, cooking and traveling.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Thomas Ponder.
Bettye is survived by her children, Caryl Ann Davis and husband, Ron, Kay Ellen Thompson and Linda Jean Nyholm and husband, James; brother, Bill Hart; grandchildren, Kelsey Inlow, Katey Henley, Kolton Henley, Melissa Nettles, Austin Thompson and Tomi Rael; and four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bettye's name to Cross Timbers Hospice, 207 C St. NW, Ardmore, OK 73401.
