Two Die in Crash at Walnut Street Crossing
~ A 62-year-old man and his 3-year-old grandson died at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday following a train-car collision at the Walnut Street crossing at 6:05 p.m.
~ Leroy (Chick) Allison, of 225 Madison Drive, and his grandson, Marty McCraw, of the same address, died at Cherokee County Memorial Hospital three hours after the accident occured.
~ Mr. Allison died at 9:15 p.m. Marty, son of Frank and Melba McCraw, died five minutes later.
~ Funeral services will be conducted today at 4 o'clock in a double service at the Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home. Revs. Clarence Hampton, Billy Fox and Audrey Hamrick will be officiating and burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
~ Mr. Allison, a retired textile worker who was maintenance man at Hartzog's Laundry, was the son of the late Landrum and Hattie Chapman Allison. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jennie Albright Allison of Gaffney; daughters, Mrs. L.T. Dowdle of Waterloo; Mrs. Frank McCraw of Gaffney; sons, Joe Dean and Jack Allison, both of Gaffney; sisters, Mrs. Clarence Phillips, Mrs. William Harmon, Misses Lula Mae and Ellen Allison, all of Gaffney; brothers, Harvey and Andrew Allison of Gaffney; and eight grandchildren.
