May 9, 1948 - Feb. 19, 2014
Resident of San Jose
Colleen Ray, known as Coke by family and friends, and Bammy by her grandchildren, passed away on February 19th at the age of 65 from a severe lung infection while visiting her grandchildren in southern California. A native of Nebraska City, Nebraska, Coke is survived by her husband of 31 years, Louis Nichols, her parents Jess and Gretchen Ray, her son Adam Ray (Jinmei), her precious grandchildren Leia and Jack Ray, brothers Mike (Emily), Jeff, and Randy Ray, sisters Susan (Richie) Miranda and Robin (Debora) Ray, nieces Rebecca Ray, Erin Santos (Matt), Adriane Gutierrez, and Barbara Maruska, and sister-in-law Penny Nichols.
The oldest of six children, Coke relocated with her family from Atchison, KS., in 1964 to the Bay Area. She graduated from Piedmont Hills High School, San Jose City College, and attended San Jose State. Coke was an avid reader, a talented artist, loved astronomy and nature and her home state of Nebraska. She had a natural curiosity and was the family genealogist, which would promote interesting conversation about the family's history. She was the one in the family to keep in contact with family and friends across the country. Coke will be especially remembered for her gentleness, her generosity, and for the love of her grandchildren. She is greatly missed and her memory will always be a part of us.
