Edwin L. Pierce
Our beloved husband and father went home to his Savior on Jan. 27, 2007, after fighting a courageous 10-year battle with Parkinson's disease. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007 and funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007 at Meridian's Chapel of the Chimes, Main and Carlton in Meridian. Burial will follow at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise. Ed was born in Boise, Idaho, on Feb. 24, 1920, to Lee and Gladys Pierce. He was raised in Boise and attended Franklin High School. Ed married Loretta Lamb in 1941. They had two children, Gary and Pamela. They later divorced. Ed was drafted into the Army in 1943. He served for two years in World War II, including 13 months overseas in the European Theatre. His decorations and citations included the American Theater Service Medal, European Service Medal with two stars, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star, and Victory Medal, with battles and campaigns in Rhineland and Central Europe. After receiving an honorable discharge from the service, Ed started his career in the lumber business. He married Marjorie Pinneo Woodward in December of 1957. He welcomed Marjorie's three children as his own, Mike, Bob, and Kathy, whom he later adopted. Together Ed and Marjorie had three sons, Ed Jr., Steve, and Randy. Over the years, Ed worked for various building material suppliers, and he retired from Irrigator's Lumber Company when he 65. Ed then worked at Coast-to-Coast in Meridian until the age of 75, when he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Ed is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Marjorie; his children, Gary Pierce (Jackie) of Vancouver, Wash.; Pamela Penn of Portland, Ore.; Mike Woodward of Boise; Bob Woodward (Patt) of Meridian; Kathy Wright (Mike) of Baker City, Ore.; Ed Pierce Jr. (Alana) of Nampa; Steve Pierce (Jaye B.) of Meridian; and Randy Pierce (Mary) of Boise. He was blessed with 16 grandchildren, Brandon Pierce; Michelle and Ryan Penn; Rob Woodward (Danielle); Chris Kinney (Jennifer), Nathan Kinney, and Becky Kinney Brown (John); Scott, Kristin, and Nicole Pierce; Jennifer Leeds (Chance); Marissa and Mikaela Pierce; and Katie, Kylie, and Kelsie Pierce. Ed also had eight very special great-grandchildren, Cole and Jackson Kinney; Hailey and Jacob Woodward; Grady Brown; Sydnie Pierce-Rodriguez; and Ryan and Rylie Leeds. He is also survived by his brother, Glenn Pierce of Council, Idaho, and sister, Lois Obenchain (Fred) of Meridian, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Leonard Titmus, and sister, Lucille Bybee. Ed was a hero to his family. He taught us about family values, honesty, hard work, loyalty, and love of the Lord. He had a great sense of humor and loved a good joke. He was a dedicated husband, father, brother, and grandpa. He inspired all of us with his courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. Throughout his battle, he maintained a positive attitude, fighting with dignity and without complaints. He will be greatly missed by all. The family would like to extend their heart-felt thanks to the entire staff of the Idaho State Veterans Home. Thank you for the love and care that you gave Ed during the last months of his life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to The Parkinson's Institute, 1170 Morse Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94089, or the Idaho State Veterans Home, Attn: Phil Hawkins, PO Box 7765, Boise, ID 83707.
