US Marine Lance Corporal Garry Glenn Tallent was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Marine Corps, LCPL Tallent served our country until August 20th, 1967 in Quang Tri, South Vietnam. He was 19 years old and was not married. It was reported that Garry died from small arms fire while riding on a Helicopter. His body was recovered. Garry was born on August 5th, 1948 in Morganton, North Carolina. LCPL Tallent is on panel 25E, line 021 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.
We were high school classmates. I remember you from Morganton High School and growing up in Morganton, North Carolina. I owe you a tremendous debt of gratitude. I have found your name on the N.C. Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten. Semper Fi! Joe W. Avery.

He served with Bravo Company, 3rd Recon Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd MAF.
He was awarded The Combat Action Ribbon, The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, the Vietnam Service Medal, The Vietnam Campaign Medal and The National Defense Service Medal.
