Loren Myers Kelly, 89, passed away Friday, March 17, 2017, due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease.

Kelly was born on April 14, 1927, in Couley, La. She attended the Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Pineville, La., graduating in 1947. She met her husband, Dr. Thomas Glenn Kelly, while he was in Alexandria, La., completing his medical residency. They married in 1951, served in the United States Air Force, and then moved to Jasper in 1953.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church for 63 years, and actively served in the Women in the Church. She served the community as a member of the Women’s Medical Auxiliary, leader of Girl Scout Troop 29, and a volunteer at the Nearly New Shop. She was also a member of the Christian Women’s Club and the Cosmopolitan Club.

She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Although she spoke with a soft voice, her love for Christ was loudly proclaimed in her quiet genteel spirit, hospitality, and service to others. She was an excellent cook, a very talented artist, and an accomplished seamstress.

Kelly was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur L. Myers; her husband of 48 years, Dr. Thomas Glenn Kelly Sr.; her sisters, Sylvia Panzigrau and Illin Robinette; her daughter, Kathryn Anne Kelly; and grandson, Daniel Godbey Kelly.
