Marilyn Glee Henkel, the daughter of Velma (Cullen) and William Erwin Burling, was born October 4, 1932 at Heartwell, Nebraska. She departed this life on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska at the age of 84 years, 5 months and 14 days.

​Marilyn received her formal education attending rural schools and graduated from the Kenesaw High School. She then attended the Mary Lanning School of Nursing where she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse. Marilyn was united in marriage with Glenn Gordon Henkel on March 14, 1954 at Minden, Nebraska. This union was blessed with a son, Bill and a daugther, Candace. Marilyn was employed part time as a surgical nurse with the Webster County Community Hospital in Red Cloud for 27 years and the Blue Hill Clinic for 20 years until her retirement in 1983. Marilyn and Glenn lived in the Bladen and Campbell area for 45 years and in the late 1970's moved to Red Cloud to make their home. In 1999, following their retirement, they moved to Hastings to live. They wintered in Ormond Beach, Florida for many years.

​Marilyn was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Hastings as well as the LWML. She was a past member of the Catherton Extension Club and was a 4-H Leader for many years. A talented musician, she volunteered her time as church organist for many years with Trinity Lutheran at Campbell. She dedicated many years as a volunteer with the Bloodmobile and had touched numerous lives throughout her nursing career.

​In her leisure time she enjoyed sewing, baking and traveling with Glenn. Her greatest love and enthusiasm in life was for her family and Marilyn especially treasured time spent with her grandchilden and great grandchildren.

​Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband, Glenn, on August 10, 2014.

​Left to cherish her memory are her son, Bill Henkel and wife Deb of Hastings, Nebraska; daughter, Candace Crockett and husband Dana of Belleville, Kansas; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren: David Crockett and wife, Libby and daughter, Elsie; Heather Jones and husband, Adam; Macaela Cottam and husband Craig; Kelsey Peterson and husband, TJ and son, John; Bryson Henkel and fiance, Morgan Farley; two brothers, Eldon Burling of Aurora, Nebraska and Charles Burling and wife, Wanda of Palm Harbor, Florida; other relatives and many friends.

​Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., March 22, 2017 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hastings with the Rev. Paul Warneke officiating. Interment will be at 1:45 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at Campbell, Nebraska.

Visitation will be held Monday and Tuesday, 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, and Wednesday, 8:00 a.m. to service time at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Zion Lutheran Church in Hastings.
