From the Coke County History Book. According to information furnished by Mrs. Lyndon Claude Landers.Nothing is known of his (Alonzo Knox Landers) parents, but Aunt Gracie Landers Varnadore says that her father's family consisted of "Uncle Charley, Uncle Dee, and Aunt Lula." Lon ( as he was called) arrived in Texas in 1879, where he met and married a pretty, tender-hearted young woman named, Elizabeth Catherine Adams. Lissie (as she was called...) Mr. and Mrs. Landers cared for their family with earnings from their land, where they worked hard, farming and raising cattle. All the cattle were branded with the initials "A. K.". In the area of worship, it has been said that A. K. used to walk nearly ten miles Sunday mornings to hear Christadelphian speakers preach the Truth. Eventually, he and Mrs Landers, and some of their children were baptized.
They (A. K. and Elizabeth) lived long, productive lives, and were dearly loved. All of their children lie resting in Texas sod, save Pammie in France. All, I say, except dear, Aunt Gracie, who still lives in Robert Lee and will celebrate her 91st birthday on August 21st, 1983. You are loved, dear one. God bless you. According to Coke County TX history book contributor Billye Landers Talley, her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. K. landers were some of the first settlers in this community.
Further research has discovered Alonzo in Alabama census reports with his parents.
