Veteran Laid to Rest at Fleming
LUDOWICI, Ga., Jan 31 -- Joseph Lee Andrews, 83, veteran of the War Between the States, was laid to rest Sunday afternoon near his home at Fleming, in Liberty county. The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. E. M. Elder, of Hinesville, pastor of the Olivet Methodist church at Fleming, assisted by the Rev. C. W. Jordan, of Ludowici, who formerly was pastor of the Fleming church. Death came Friday to the veteran, who was wounded in Virginia in battle, in 1864, when his shoulderblade was shot away, from which he never recovered fully. He served with the 25th Georgia Regiment in Company H and with the 20th Georgia Battalion, the liberty Mounted Rangers. When the Rangers were nearly wiped out the fragment of the company was attached to the "Jeff Davis Legion" and it was with this force that Mr. Andrews served on guard duty until the end of the struggle. The deceased was a native of Liberty county, having been christened in Midway church by Dr I. S. K. Axson, grandfather of President Wilson's first wife.
