Lily Signorotti Chaney, 91, of Greenfield, passed away on March 11, 2017 in Atascadero, California.

Visitation will be held at Eddington Funeral Home in King City, California on March 20 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Greenfield, California on Tuesday, March 21 at 11:00 a.m.

Lily was born to Argentina and Pierino Signorotti on June 4, 1925. She attended Greenfield Elementary School and King City High School, where she participated in all sports and music programs. She was the head “Yell Leader,” and she was one of the first girls to earn a block letter for her participation in sports. Upon graduation in 1944, Lily worked at the Monterey County Trust and Saving in Salinas. She later worked at the Greenfield Post Office for over 25 years, and retired in 1986.

In 1945, she married her high school sweetheart, Norwood Chaney. Together they raised four sons, and they were very involved with all of their sons’ activities. Lily helped start the American Red Cross swim program in Greenfield. She was a swim instructor for 10 years, she volunteered as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, and she helped with youth baseball where she was a scorekeeper and worked in the concession booth.

Lily was also very active in the community. She served on the Greenfield Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the Greenfield Planning Commission for eight years. She also enjoyed volunteering for the Monterey County Agriculture Farm Days and the Mee Memorial Hospital Service League in King City. Lily was on the Board of Directors of the Silver Kings and Queens. She was a charter member of the Greenfield American Legion Auxiliary Unit #635 and served as president several years. She was a member of the Monterey County Swiss American Club, “La Ticinella” Club and Greenfield’s “Birthday Club”. These ladies met every month to celebrate their birthdays for over 60 years. Lily enjoyed entertaining patients at Eden Valley Care Home in Soledad and Touch of Grace in Greenfield. She attended Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Greenfield, where she participated in the choir and was a member of the Divine Mercy prayer group. Lily enjoyed traveling, time with family, sports, art, theater, music and dancing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norwood, of 58 years, her parents, Argentina and Pierino Signorotti, sister, Lorraine O’Brien and brother, Henry Signorotti. She is survived by four sons, Fred Chaney (Janet) of Nipomo; David Chaney (Jane) of Carmel Valley; Allen Chaney (MaryAnne) of Atascadero; Steven Chaney (Gail) of King City and her sister, RoseAnn Zeppa (Tony) of San Jose. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Lily’s caregivers and to the Atascadero Christian Home for their loving and caring support over the past 3 years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Campaign for the Preservation of Mission San Antonio de Padua, P.O. Box 450, King City, CA 93930.

A Visitation will be held on Monday, March 20, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Eddington Funeral Services Chapel, 429 Bassett St., King City. A Recitation of the Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 803 Elm Avenue, Greenfield, Calif. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
