Keron Walker Sherwin died peacefully surrounded by her family on March 12, 2017 at the age of 95 at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury, North Carolina.

The daughter of the late Harvey Currie Walker and Sallie Florance Walker, Keron was born in Caswell County on February 12, 1922. She grew up in Alamance County and graduated from Elon College High School and Elon College. She was married on August 2, 1947 to Sidney Thomas Sherwin. They celebrated their 50th anniversary shortly before his death in 1997.

Keron was a devoted elementary school teacher for 32 years, teaching fourth and fifth graders in Guilford County, Greensboro, Burlington, Spencer, and East Spencer. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Salisbury where she and Sidney were longtime members of the Fellowship Sunday School. Following her retirement from teaching, Keron enjoyed volunteering as a member of the Rowan County Regional Medical Center Auxiliary Guild and served two terms as chairman of the Gift Shop Committee. She was named a life member of the Guild in 2011.

Keron loved gardening and tending to her flowers, reading and playing bridge. She was a member of the Amicitia Book Club and played bridge in six different bridge clubs. In earlier years, she enjoyed playing golf with the 9-hole group at the Country Club of Salisbury and she and Sidney enjoyed traveling together and attending family reunions. She always loved spending time with her friends and family and hosted many family dinners in her home. Until she experienced a sudden loss in eyesight at age 91, she lived at home, drove her car, did her own housework, and did almost all of her yardwork on her own.

Keron is survived by her two daughters, Nancy Sherwin Rendleman and her husband Richard of Raleigh, and Judy Elaine Sherwin-Fife and her husband Todd of Salisbury. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Elizabeth Sawyer and her husband Robert, and Edward Rendleman, two great grandchildren, Matthew and Isabelle Sawyer, and four nieces. She was predeceased by her sisters, Hazel Fox and Sara Walker, and her brother, Cooper Walker.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 10:00 am at Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury, NC, followed by the funeral at 11:00 am at Summersett Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Mark Conforti officiating. Burial will be in City Memorial Park.
