George Small Rites Scheduled Tuesday - Funeral services for George W. Small, a resident of Philomath since 1928 who died in a local hospital Saturday will be held in the McHenry Funeral Home Tuesday at 2 p.m.
The son of Rueben and Ruth Slyter Small, he was born October 1, 1887 at Sterling, Kan. At the age of 12 he came to Oregon with his parents and the family settled at Marion. He was married to Lorna B. Shippy on May 5, 1909 at McMinnville. The couple made their home at Marion until 1914 when they moved to Big Elk where they homesteaded. In 1928 they moved to Philomath. Mr. Small had been employed many years for the state highway department as a grader operator. Mrs. Small died July 5, 1960.
He was a past governor of the Corvallis Moose Lodge and a member of the Maccabees.
He is survived by five daughters Mrs. C.W. (Ethel) Price of Springfield; Mrs. Paul (Mabel) Lee, of Corvallis; Mrs. J.T. (Ruby) Mears and Mrs. Harlin (Wauneta) Zimmerman, both of Philomath; Mrs. Dick (Bertie) Downing of Moses Lake, Wash; one brother, Les Small of Corvallis; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services at the Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens cemetery will be conducted by the Corvallis Moose Lodge.
