The only child of Russell Ford Ashmun and Dorothy Irene Oviatt, born in Cleveland, OH on May 5, 1925. Education in Hudson, Ohio Elementary School and Western Reserve Academy, up to 1942. Wartime service from 1942-1945: U.S. War Dept., Cleveland Ordnance Dist., Mail and Record; American Field Service (volunteer ambulance service) with the British Army, Middle East and Italy; Ambulance Driver, Anzio Beach Head, Central and Northern Italy; Lieutenant, D Platoon, 485 Ambulance Co. Further education: Western Reserve Univ., Cleveland, OH; Georgetown Univ., School of Foreign Service, Washington, DC; and graduation from New School for Social Research, New York, NY in 1951: B.A. History. He worked as a systems analyst from 1952-1992 for Republic Steel Corp., Cleveland, OH; for Towmotor Corp, Cleveland, OH and Dallas, OR,; and finally, for Agripac Inc., Salem, OR.
Predeceased by his former wife, Janet Bair Ashmun, married from 1952-1994, as well as by his son, Russell Ford III. He is survived by his children: Robert (Computer Systems), Salem, OR, who cared for him until his death and Kathryn, of Chardon, OH, married to Thomas Pitrone, and their children: Owen, Frank, Robert, Dominic, Andrew and Veronica, and eight grandchildren. Russ loved the mountains of Oregon and California. He treasured the people he worked with and the players and game of Frisbee Ultimate.
Services will be held in Ohio at a later date.
