*In early 1850s, the Georgia legislature deemed that "all people should be able to reach their county seat within one day". This resulted in existing county lines being adjusted to create "new" counties. One of those was Fannin County which was created in 1854 from portions of Gilmer (primarily the northern portion of Gilmer which originally extended to the Tennessee state line & eastward along a smaller portion of the North Carolina state line) and a smaller portion of smaller portion of Union County. A smaller portion along the southern end of Gilmer Co and a portion of northern were used to create Pickens Co in 1853. Thus, it is NOT clear whether this Long family actually moved or were placed in Gilmer Co as result of the new counties being created.

Ader E. Long, 11 (b Jan 1889)
Note that son John B. Long, age 6 in 1880 census, is not found in 1900 Gilmer Co census; however, a marriage record may have been found for him ... John B. Long & Marcena Bearden married Sep 1, 1892, Gilmer Co, GA; Bk 4, Pg 190. No further information on this man.

Above info suggests that Lidia C. Holden Long died between birth of Ada in Jan of 1889 and the date Levi Long married his second wife, Manerva (Jan 1893). During that time period, "widowed men" with small children tended to re-marry rather quickly (usually within a few months); it is probable that Lidia died in late summer or early fall of 1892.

Info concerning Levi's death & burial site were obtained from some old Georgia Death Records which I found approx. 20 years ago. Death Certificate #17467 - informant was his son-in-law, J. ?. Greer.
