Married Joan McGary of Bloomington,Pa on 30 Dec 67 and they had three children: Gary Lee Shaw Jr(1 Oct 69), Dennis Wayne Shaw (6 Jul 71), and Charirty Vaughn Shaw (13 Dec 73). Enlisted in USMC (1965-67)and then the US Army (1967-88). Retired from the Army and served as the Senior Army JROTC Instructor at Anson High School in Wadesboro, NC (1988-2012) for a total of 48 years in military uniform.Selected as the 2004 National JROTC Instructor of the year.
Attended US Army Infantry Officer Candidate School as a serving Staff Sergeant and was commisioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Signal Corps. BS degree from Emory Riddle Aeronautical University and MS degree from Florida Institute of Technology. Vietnam combat veteran ( Bronze Star and Purple Heart). Selected for promotion to Lieutenant Colonel but elected to retire and teach JROTC.
