Larry A Smith, 69, of Franklin IL, and The Villages FL died Tuesday March 7 in The Villages. He was born October 30, 1947 in Jacksonville IL, the son of the late Orville and Helen Taylor Smith.

He married Susan McNeely on October 19, 1968 at Franklin United Methodist Church in Franklin and she survives. He is also survived by two sons; Doug of Riverview FL and Kevin (fiancée Rebecca Lipscomb) of New Berlin; one granddaughter, Addison Smith, and Addison’s mother Christine Smith. Three sisters survive; Lois (Doris) Richey of Ringgold GA, Barbara (Dee Wayne) Murphy of Mt Vernon IL, and Mary (John) Novak of Springfield IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother and sister-in-law Ronald and Alene Smith.

He was a 1965 graduate of Franklin High School. Larry worked at AC Humko in Jacksonville for 36 years, retiring in 2004. He was a farmer near Franklin and owned Smith’s Concessions, operating at many area auctions and festivals. He enjoyed golf, slow pitch softball, coaching his sons’ baseball and soccer teams, traveling with Susan, attending Flashes sporting events, and St Louis Cardinals baseball games. His greatest pleasure was granddaughter Addison.

Larry was a member of Franklin United Methodist Church. He joined Jacksonville Moose Lodge #865 in 1971, when the lodge was located in downtown Jacksonville. A lover of classic and muscle cars, he and Susan were members of the Heart of Illinois GTO chapter of GTO Association of America, the Pontiac Oakland Club International, and of the former Jacksonville Area Antique Car Club. They loved traveling the country with fellow car enthusiasts on The Bandit Run and Snowman’s Run to benefit veterans.

A funeral service will be held at 1 pm Monday March 13, 2017 at the Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville.

Burial will be in the Franklin Cemetery. The family will meet with friends on Sunday from 2 until 5 pm at the funeral home.
