GORDO – Erma Ruth Burkhalter Homan, age 86, of Gordo, Ala., died March 8, 2017, at her home. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Shiloh Free Will Baptist Church with Bro. Adam Homan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be Friday, March 10, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Davis Homan; her parents; brother, Lee Colium Burkhalter; and sister, Ruby Burkhalter Lokey.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Homan Beason (John); sons, Clifton Homan (Vicki), Kenneth Homan and James Homan (Tracey); sister, Daisy Burkhalter Hardcastle; nine grandchildren, Sharron Jimerson, Pam Jordan, Amanda Dobbins, Daniel Homan, Adam Homan, Kallenna Homan, Jo Autry, Lance Homan and Anna Homan; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Homan was born November 4, 1930 in Gordo, Alabama to the late William Luther Burkhalter and Naomi Koon Burkhalter. She was a member of Shiloh Free Will Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star.
Erma Ruth was a devoted Christian that loved the Lord. She was an awesome cook, hardworking mother and homemaker and a very caring and nurturing grandmother.
Erma had extreme strength, courage and love. She was a beautiful woman inside and out and now is as peaceful as a dove.
Pallbearers will be Chad Fitch, Lance Homan, Daniel Homan, Terrel Jordan, Nolan Jordan and Brandon Autry.
Honorary pallbearers are staff of DCH Regional Medical Center ER and 6 North, Hospice of West Alabama, Amedisys Home Health, Bobbie Summerville, Cannie Mae Woolbright and Earline Nichols.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Rd., Tuscaloosa, AL 35404 or Shiloh Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P. O. Box 1022, Gordo, AL 35466.
MawMaw, you were my best friend. I have admired everything about you and I hope I am half the woman you were. It was my pleasure to have taken care of you for so many years. I will forever hold your memories in my heart.
