MRS. PARNELL POWERS
Mrs. Parnell (June) Powers, 451 Seventh East, died Monday at 12:10 a.m. at her residence after a lingering illness.
She was born in East Midvale, a daughter of Olaf and Matilda (Millerberg) Johnson, Utah pioneers. She graduated from high school and later attended LDS Business College and University of Utah.
She taught in private kindergarten for a number of years and was active in civic and musical affairs in the community.
Mrs. Powers was a member of the University of Utah Mothers Club, Wasatch Literary Club, Women's Safety Council, Ladies Auxiliary of Union Pacific Old Timers Club No. 12, Chapman Branch Literary Club, Salt Lake Mothers Club, Naomi Rebekah Lodge and a charter member of The Art Barn and the Salt Lake Chapter, American Red Cross.
For many years she was affiliated with the District Federation of Women's Clubs and the Salt Lake Council of Women. She was one of the first women to promote musical entertainment for the old folks at the County Infirmary and Tuberculosis Wards. She served as chairman of many projects during World Wars I and II, serving as a volunteer nurse's aid in the Pollo Hospital for many years.
She is survived by her husband, A. W. (Hal) Powers, and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 4 p.m. at 574 East 100 South, in charge of Rev. George J. Weber, pastor, Congregational Church.
Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
