Gene Woodward Sanders Call, 96, passed away peacefully at Millard Care and Rehabilitation Center in Delta.

She was born August 1, 1920 in Murray to Clement James and Georgia Woodward Sanders.

She married William Garland Call on December 10, 1943 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 13, 1944.

Gene grew up in Murray and graduated from Granite High School in 1937. She met the love of her life while performing in the operetta, Maytime. She was fifteen and Bill was seveneteen. Soon after, Bill went to Hollywood to further his career and they lost touch with one another. Six years later, while Bill was in the Air Force, they started writing letters to one another. Bill proposed three months later on December 1st, and they were married on the 10th of December. They raised three boys and worked together in their upholstery business, Mastercraft.

Gene was a very talented lady. In order to get some girl time, she took a ceramics class, which she called her “sanity class.” She made many figurines and dolls, which she shared with her family. She even dressed some of them in homemade clothes. She was a wonderful cook, and spoiled her family every chance she got.

Gene is preceded in death by her sweetheart, Bill; parents; siblings: Virginia (Ken) Pendelton, C. Reed (Ila) Sanders, and Lee (Colleen) Sanders; son, Steven Garland Call; and granddaughter, Mylessa Call. She is survived by her sons, Gailen (Janet) Call and Michael (Tammy) Call; nine grandchildren; and twenty-six great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. in the Cottonwood Heights First Ward Chapel, 7075 South 2245 East, Cottonwood Heights. A viewing will be held on Friday, March 10, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, and prior to the services at the church on Saturday from 10:00-10:45 a.m.
