“Emelie Leftwich” (1784 VA—1883 VA).

She was born, married, lived, & died @ Bedford Co., VA. She was born on 9-2-1784; she died on 3-23-1883. I read that she died from a fall from a horse @ 99!

Emelie was the daughter of:
~ “Col. Thomas Leftwich” (1740 VA—1816 VA) &
~ “Jane ‘Gincey’ Stratton” (1762 VA—1806 VA).
Jane was Thomas’ 3rd. wife. Emelie was their 1st child.

THE REV. WAR = Emelie's Dad's Service:
* “Col. Thomas Leftwich” was a Rev. War Soldier. *
He later became a Sheriff of Bedford Co., VA.

EMELIE’s HUSBAND:
Emelie Leftwich married “Mark Anthony, Sr.” (1779 VA—1859 VA).
They married on 12-13-1799 @ Bedford Co., VA. Their surety bond was on 12-12-1799.

Mark was the son of:
~ “John Anthony, JR.” (1746 VA—1822 VA) &
~ “Susan Austin” (1749 VA—1817 VA).

John JR. & Susan married in 1771 VA.
They had 8 Children = 6 sons & 2 daughters who were raised @ brick home that overlooked Anthony Mill Creek (today known as Mill Creek). Mark was their 3rd. son.

~ Capt. Mark Anthony ran a saw mill & a grist mill & a ferry station @ Anthony Mill Creek (today known as Mill Creek).
[His brothers, Abner & Charles, also had ferry stations on the Roanoke & Otter Rivers in Franklin & Pittsylvania Counties of VA. Later, Abner became a Baptist minister (as their father had been) while Charles later farmed. Abner lived @ Cedar Hill @ Bedford Co. while Charles lived @ Walnut Hill @ Campbell Co. which is different from the Leftwich's Walnut Hill. Charles' home still stands today with his descendants living in the beautiful home.]

THE WAR OF 1812

* Capt. Mark Anthony, Sr. was in command of 500 men from Bedford Co., VA. This was the VA Militia 10th Regiment. This company under Mark’s command was called “Anthony’s Artillery Company”. For 6 months, this artillery company was @ Ft. Norfolk, VA under the general command of Lt. Col. Edmund Lucas of the 4th Infantry Militia Regiment. *

Emelie’s relatives were also active during The War of 1812. They were: Maj. Littleberry Leftwich, Maj. Jabez Leftwich, Lt. Nicodemus Leftwich, Capt. Jesse Leftwich, & Capt. James Leftwich.

(Named-for Mark's younger brother Abner.)

~ Emelie Leftwich Anthony (1814)
m: William V. Haden or Headon on 1-3-1837. It was stated as Headon on the surety bond.
(Named exactly the same as her mother.)

~ Sallie E. Anthony (1816)
Thought to have died about age 6.

~ Mary C. Anthony (1819)
m: Adison W. Ward on 10-12-1850.

~ Thomas William Anthony (1821-1901)
m: Ellen F. Leftwich.

m: William H.Tandy or Tardy on 12-3-1845. It was stated as Headon on the surety bond.

~ Charles Anthony (1828)
Thought to have died about age 16.
