He was the son of Albert and Josephine (Bergman) Meyer. On Aug 6, 1960, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Philothea, he married Betty Braun, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Diana (Eric) Hirschfeld, New Bremen; two sons: David (Shelly), Russia, and Gregg (Mandi), Minster; two sisters: Carolyn (Norman) Winner, Wentzville, MO, and Evelyn (Vernon) Bergman, Yorkshire; a brother-in-law, Richard (Janet) Braun, St. Henry; seven sisters-in-law: Rosie Meyer, Celina, Dorothy Sudhoff, St. Anthony, Rosemary (George) Bruns, Chickasaw, Ruth (Leon) Brunswick, St. Henry, Marlene (Romie) Fullenkamp, Bryant, IN, Kathy (Richard) Highley, Celina, and Karen (Paul) Boeke, Cassella; and six grandchildren, two step grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother and sister linked below; and a brother-in-law, Herman Sudhoff.
He served in the US Army during peacetime following the Korean War. He retired in 2000 from Copeland Corp., Sidney, where he had been employed 42 years. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the Copeland Retiree's Union. Since retiring, he did a lot of woodworking in his leisure time. He enjoyed building things for his family and often insisted that "anything worth doing was worth doing right." A gifted story-teller who never knew a stranger, he especially enjoyed interacting with his grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at the church, with Rev. Steven Shoup officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
