Mr. Bettencourt was born in Modesto and was a lifelong resident of Newman. He was a chief engineer at the East-West Dairyman’s Association for 10 years. He was a parishioner of St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Newman. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves, California Riffles Association, NRA (National Rifle Association) and enjoyed hunting and gun smithing.
Mr. Bettencourt is survived by his wife, Elfreda Bettencourt; son, Joseph E. Bettencourt; daughters, Joyce Souza, Julie Silveira and Joan Dias; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm, Sunday, April 12th at Hillview Funeral Chapel in Newman. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, April 13th at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Newman. Interment to follow at Hills Ferry Cemetery in Newman.
