In October 1941 she married Marvin Carl Gabel. They had a son Mark Lauren.
She worked as a abstractor and was owner of Real Estate Abstract & Title Insurance Company for 12 years, retiring in 1971. She also worked as a bookkeeper, office manager and register of deeds.
Mavis and Marvin moved to Sun City in 1982.
She was a member of American Lutheran Church, Lutheran Social Serives, the MInnehaha Republican Women;s Club, Crippledd Children;s Hospital and School, and the South Dakota Homebuilder's Association.
Survivors included her son, Mark or Spearfish; two sisters, Cassandra Johanson of Sioux Falls and Norma Ekberg of Wheat Ridge, Colo.; and a brother Ernest Carlson of Sioux Falls.
