Last night Evan was brought to the city in a critical condition. It appears that prior to their return home the two boys were practicing at a target with a rifle and in some manner the unfortunate Joe became the mark for Bailey's bullet and fell victim of the latter's stray shot. The news of the terrible accident reached the city about half past four o'clock, and the urgent call for medical aid Drs. Steele and Gudden responded. By five o'clock the news of the shooting spread like wild fire, and anxious people, who were well acquainted with young Evans and his father' family, eagerly inquired for the particulars.
It was reported that the unfortunate boy could not live, and from the time it became known that the wound might prove fatal expressions of deep sympathy were heard on every hand.
Joe is about eighteen years old and the son of the Rev. R.T. Evans, formerly pastor of the Welsh Congregational church. He was formerly employed at Ely' photograph gallery and of late had been working at Webster's.
As soon as practicable he was removed from the residence of William Wright whither he had been conveyed after the shooting, to the home of his father on West Irving street. The news of the accident was broken to Mrs. Evans a little while before her wounded son reached home and she immediately went into a fainting spell from which she did not recover for some time.
++++++
Evans died about three clock this afternoon.
