APLINGTON - Johanna "Hannah" Van Hauen Koefoed, 100, of Aplington, died Sunday, Jan. 21, at Maple Manor Care Center, Aplington, of natural causes.

She was born Aug. 11, 1906, near Clarksville in Butler County, daughter of Joe and Freeda Johnson Schrage. She married John Van Hauen on March 30, 1927, at her parents' home. He died May, 1951. She married Ed Koefoed on Dec. 22, 1952. He died in 1957.

Mrs. Koefoed worked as a hired girl for seven years before her marriage and in 1951 went to work at Clay Equipment. Later she operated a restaurant in Grundy Center for 20 years and was a cook at the Beverly Manor for two years prior to her retirement. She also was president of the Butler County Council on Aging.

Survivors include: a son, Lawrence (Mary) Van Hauen of Waterloo; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Wilma Schrage of Shell Rock; and a daughter-in-law, Judy Crosser of Grundy Center.

Preceded in death by: a son, Raymond Van Hauen; two brothers, Abel and Henry Schrage; and five sisters, Elizabeth Mennenga, Lena Lubben, Tena Pickering, Freeda Knock and Anna Garbes.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel Lutheran Church, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, both in Parkersburg. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg.
