Ruby Grobe Hartmann went to be with the Lord on August 1st 2023 in her home surrounded by family.
She was born to Edwin Grobe and Hilda Petsch Grobe in Stonewall, Texas on December 30th 1920. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at Bethany Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg, Texas and now is a member of Triumphant Lutheran Church in Garden Ridge, Texas. She was married to her husband Elgin on August 17th 1941 at Zion Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg, Texas where they made their home in the Pecan Creek Community. She was a beautician and owned her first shop in Fredericksburg on Main Street next to Dooley's Five and Dime store. She continued working in Falfurrias and later in Corpus Christi where she with her husband made their permanent residence. Her husband's stroke at a young age led Ruby to help with his construction business while managing her own career. She was as comfortable with building a deck as she was with baking a cake. Having been raised in the country, Ruby was an avid vegetable gardener and hunter of deer, rabbits, quail and turkeys. She as an expert seamstress making clothes for her children and grandchildren. She had a wide range of interests: she loved helping her daughter Janie and her husband Carl in their ceramic shop and pulling her camper with the camping club on weekends.
In 2002 she and her husband moved to New Braunfels to be near family and reside with granddaughter Liz James and Becky James. Preceding her in death was her husband Elgin Hartmann and son-in laws Carl Page, Kenneth Pratt, James Pratt, John Purdue, Ed Crowder; sister Irene Mosel and husband Hardy, sister Gertrude Roos and husband Marvin, sister Dora Alice Wiereshausen and husband Henry; brother William Grobe and wife Madeline, brother Milton Grobe; sister in law Pasty Grobe. Surviving her are her three daughters: Mary Jane "Janie" Page and Charlie Pabst of Coal Hill, Arkansas, Helen Pratt of San Antonio Texas and Cheryl Ann Crowder of Coal Hill, Arkansas; 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren; brother Franklin Grobe of Coal Hill, Arkansas, and Carlene Grobe of Fredericksburg, Texas.
Ruby, affectionately known as Ma by family and friends alike, was a strong-willed, feisty, spirited and determined matriarch. She loved fiercely and unconditionally. A lady with a never-ending to-do list, she had the gumption to get it done or find one of us to get it done for her. She bravely faced all of life's challenges and adversity with persistence. She was confidant to each daughter, best friend of the grandchildren and cornerstone for the next generations. The epitome of the "can-do" attitude worked well for all her 102 years. We miss her already.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at 11:00 AM followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00 PM at Schertz Funeral Home. Interment will be held the following day, Thursday, August 10, 2023 at 2:30 PM at Seaside Memorial Park in Corpus Christi, Texas.
