Virginia Ann Beattie Deemer, 73, of Athens passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017 following a sudden illness. Ann was born July 15, 1943 in Athens to Ernest Sloss Beattie and Christine White Beattie.

A celebration of Ann’s life will be held on Saturday, March 4th at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of Athens First United Methodist Church with the Reverends Kenny Baskins and Glenn Connor officiating. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary beginning at noon. A private internment will occur at a later date. McConnell Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Ann graduated from Athens High School and Athens College. She owned and operated Athens Custom Interiors for 17 years. Ann was a member of Athens First United Methodist Church and actively and faithfully served in numerous capacities throughout her life including Chancel Choir, Parsonage Committee, Building Committee and Pastor-Parish Committee. She loved serving her community and was a charter member and past president of the Athena League. She was recognized as Alabama Business Woman of the Year by the Jaycees among other business awards. An avid golfer for many years, she held the title of Ladies’ Club Champion at Athens Country Club several times over. She enjoyed a good card game and doting on her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Ann is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Frank Deemer; daughter, Annalice Deemer; son, John Deemer and wife, Stephanie; beloved grandchildren, Jack and Ann Bentley Deemer; sister, Alice Beattie Tiller and husband, Eddie, all of Athens; brother, Ernest Beattie Jr. and wife, Gerry of Trussville; a niece, several nephews and numerous cousins and extended family whom she loved dearly.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ann Deemer Memorial Fund to benefit music programs at Athens First United Methodist Church or to your favorite charity.
