Enlisted into 22nd Iowa Infantry Co H Aug 7,1862. Age 23. Residence Jefferson. Nativity Virginia. Wounded at Vicksburg,Mississippi. Promoted to Corporal Jan 1,1864. Mustered out July 25,1865 Savannah,Georgia.
(Also in 22nd Iowa Infantry Co H was a John W Martin who didn't enlist until Jan 1865. Possibly a younger brother? During Civil War brothers & close relatives commonly elected to serve in the same regiments and companies)

Schueyville, Civil War Vet Observes his 92nd Birthday.

Schueyville, July 15, 1931--Jacob F. Martin, a Civil war veteran, celebrated his ninety-second birthday at his home here Sunday. Mr. Martin came to iowa from Virginia in 1856 and has been a resident of this state ever since.

In 1862, he enlisted for service in the Civil war and was not mustered out until the conflict ended. Possessed of an exceptionally good memory, he can relate many interesting incidents concerning the Siege of Vicksburg and the battles of Cedar Creek, Winchester and Black River.

With Mr. Martin on his birthday were his son Charles, of Davenport, his dauther Marion of Iowa City. Another son George lives in Cherokee and a daughter, Winifred Packard, in Colorado.
